Alice Lloyd College Theatre offers a minor in Speech Communication and Theatre Arts, which includes academic courses and theatrical production experience to provide students with valuable cross-disciplinary connections with the arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences. The mission of ALC Theatre is to provide an academic and experiential theatre education for students in both performance and technical theatre, while providing audiences with quality productions from the classical to the contemporary.
The program curriculum includes all aspects of theatre: performance and directing, design and technology, theatre history, and community engagement. Classes range from basic introductory level courses to more in-depth and focused studies.
A main stage production is directed each spring semester with auditions open to all Alice Lloyd College students, as well as JBS students and ALC/JBS faculty and staff. Students may earn credit hours for participating in the show, learning about theatre while assigned to work as a performer, stage manager, or member of the technical crew. Students wishing to gain even more hands-on experience may elect to work on the fall production staged by The June Buchanan School.
ALC students who wish to obtain more information about participating in ALC Theatre may contact Professor Holt at natalieholt@alc.edu.
ALC Chapter of Alpha Psi Omega
Alpha Psi Omega (APO) is a national theatre honor society which challenges members to “Seek a life useful.” Students from all majors are welcome to participate in activities sponsored by our group, but official pledges must have declared a Communications major or minor. Pledges earn points through participating in APO campus activities and theatre productions. Once enough points have been earned, pledges are officially inducted at a yearly ceremony. APO graduates earn special regalia to be worn at graduation.
Our chapter of APO participates in community service activities, some of which have included clothing drives, food drives, and a dog walk to encourage community engagement. APO also sponsors student activities such as themed movie nights and improv nights, as well as various fundraising activities. Additionally, APO members may take advantage of field trips to local dramatic events throughout the school year.
Students who wish to obtain more information about joining APO may contact Mrs. Natalie Holt at natalieholt@alc.edu.
