After missing several contests due to the wet weather, the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles finally were able to start their 2013 campaign with a series of road games against IU Southeast and Midway College. Following is a look at the two-date series.
IU Southeast 11
Alice Lloyd faced off against IU Southeast, the leader of the KIAC and one of the top teams in the nation. The Grenadiers made noise in the first inning by getting multiple runs. The home team tacked on one run in each of the next three innings. Alice Lloyd was able to get one run in the fourth inning to prevent the shutout. Kayla Gooslin drove in the lone run with a base hit. Whitley Albury and Shayla Brinegar had the other two hits.

Game two was similar to the first. The home team was able to score runs in every inning. Alice Lloyd was able to get one run in the second inning to go along with two hits in the game. Kayla Stambaugh and Tori Hammonds each had a base hit.
In the first game of the series, things started well for Alice Lloyd. The visiting Eagles were only down a run after three innings and tied the game at 1-1 in the top half of the fourth. But Midway would take back the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning. Alice Lloyd had several hits in this game, including an RBI base hit by Megan Boswell. Shayla Brinegar led the team with four big hits in the series opener.
Game two of this series was a tighter affair than the first. Alice Lloyd trailed 3-0 going into the fifth when Megan Boswell delivered her second RBI of the series and the only RBI for ALC. The visitors had opportunities but were not able to get the one big hit they needed to knot the score. Taylor Short, Shayla Brinegar and Tori Hammonds had two hits apiece.
The Lady Eagles will test themselves again on March 27th when they visit UPike for a doubleheader that is set to begin at 5 PM. The team’s next home match-ups are on Friday, March 29th, at 1 PM versus Point Park and Saturday, March 30, at 1 PM versus IUS.
