The Alice Lloyd College Eagles played two huge conference games over the weekend as they focus on improving their seeding for the upcoming KIAC Conference Tournament. Eagles mentor JR Hammond saw his club earn a split in the two contests. Currently, ALC finds themselves in 5th place with three conference games remaining. The top four teams earn an opening round home match-up when postseason play begins. Following are recaps of both games.
St. Louis College of Pharmacy 61
Alice Lloyd did not play their best ball, but still managed to hold on en route to the important win over the Eutectics. The contest was held on a neutral floor at Asbury University in Wilmore, KY.
With the win ALC runs their record to 12-11 (4-5 KIAC). With the loss, STLCOP sees their record fall to 7-11 (0-5 KIAC).
#12 Indiana University-East 83
12th ranked IU East opened up an eighteen point lead, and then withstood a furious Eagles rally before prevailing 83-72. The contest was held on a neutral floor at Midway College.
In the first half, the Red Wolves from IU East flexed their muscles and built a fifteen point lead by the first buzzer (46-31).
In the final stanza, they increased their margin to eighteen only to watch the Eagles fight back to reduce the deficit to three. Unfortunately for the young men from Pippa Passes, IU East managed to settle down and make enough big plays down the stretch to preserve the victory.
ALC (12-12, 4-6 KIAC) was led by senior Casey Dalton with 17 points. Joining him in double figures were Isaac Wilson and Shawn Thompson with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
IU East (21-5) 9-1 KIAC) was led by guards Matt Trimnell and Joshua Cook with 18 points each.
