The Alice Lloyd College Eagles closed the regular portion of the season over the weekend with two big matchups. On Friday night, they traveled to face the Kentucky Christian University Knights. On Saturday afternoon, they returned home for a KIAC Conference showdown with Cincinnati Christian University. Below are recaps of each game.
The Eagles traveled to face the KCU Knights and sneaked out of Grayson with a nice three-point victory.
In the opening half, both teams battled tooth and nail as they traded buckets for twenty minutes. At intermission, the Eagles led by two (35-33).
In the second half, ALC pulled ahead by eight, but the Knights refused to fold. Sparked by the guard play of Blandon Clemons, KCU kept the score close. Alice Lloyd bent but refused to break, as they used a balanced team effort to seal the deal and pull out the win.
ALC (13-14) was led by Isaac Wilson with 21 points. The scrappy guard also added 6 rebounds. Fellow sophomore Terry Muse added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. He also rejected 5 of the Knights’ shot attempts for good measure.
Senior guard Casey Dalton added 9 points and 6 assists, while sophomore Shawn Thompson chipped in with 8 points and 10 rebounds.
For Kentucky Christian (11-18), Clemons led all scorers with 33 points.
Alice Lloyd’s Isaac Wilson and Shawn Thompson combined for 60 points to lead the Eagles to victory in a wild shootout. In the first half, Wilson came out of the gates hot, as he pumped in 16 points to help lead the hosts to a seven point lead (45-38) by intermission.
In the second half, both squads continued to put points on the board at a fevered rate. However, ALC went on a crucial run midway through the half and pulled their lead out to as many as fifteen points. They were able to control the contest until the final horn sounded.
For the victors (14-14; 5-8 KIAC), Wilson led all scorers with 33, while Thompson (left) connected on 27 points. Thompson also led the way by dishing out 7 assists.
Senior Brandon Hayes (pictured below) contributed 12 points in the contest. He was also honored before the game for having reached a milestone on February 3rd as he recorded his 500th career rebound in a match-up against Saint Louis College of Pharmacy.
