Knott County Gingerbread Run
The ALC Cross Country team opened their season with their traditional Knott Co. Gingerbread 5K Road Race. In women’s action, Amanda Sullivan finished 2nd in a time of 27:15. Other finishers included Jerkia Vandyke in 10th (34:55), Kimberly Schroeder in 12th (37:59), and Ashley Foster in 14th (38:58).On the men’s side, Chazz Maynard finished 4th (22:20), Tylar Harmon finished in 25th (28:47), and Matthew Moorefield was 33rd (31:14).
The ALC Cross Country team traveled to conference foe Berea College to participate in their large 5K/8K Invitational. In women’s action, Amanda Sullivan finished 78th while Alissa Burkhardt finished 84th. Amanda Ashworth, Kimberly Schroeder, and Ashley Foster finished 86th, 87th, and 88th, respectively.On the men’s side, Chazz Maynard finished 78th.Tylar Harmon, Matthew Moorefield, and Alex Byrd were 85th, 87th, and 88th.
Shawnee State Invitational
The ALC Cross Country team traveled to Portsmouth, OH, for a 5K/8K Invitational meet hosted by national powerhouse Shawnee State University. In women’s action, Amanda Sullivan finished 63trd (28:58). Jerkia Vandyke, Kimberly Schroeder, and Amanda Ashworth finished 77th (39:09), 78th (39:28), and 79th (39:32).
On the men’s side, Corey Paige finished in 69th (47:05), and Tylar Harmon finished 70th (47:37).
KIAC Tournament @ Owensboro (Hosted by Brescia)
The squad closed out their season by participating in the KIAC Tournament, held this year in Owensboro and hosted by Brescia University. On the women’s side, sophomore Amanda Sullivan ran the 5K race in 26:18 to finish 46th, and junior Lydia Harris crossed the line in 34:20, which placed her 53rd.
Freshman Amanda Ashworth, junior Kimberly Schroeder, and sophomore Ashley Foster finished in times of 36:33 (54th), 36:48 (55th), and 37:28, respectively. On the men’s side, sophomore Corey Paige finished the 8K race in a time of 37:26 (52nd), while freshman McKenzie Hicks was one place behind him in a time of 39:17. Other finishers were sophomore Wayne Sparks in 55th, Matthew Moorefield in 56th, and Tyler Harmon in 47th. Their times were 45:21, 45:22, and 45:38.
With this meet, the Eagles complete their race season. With no seniors on the squad, however, Coach Gary Stepp is anticipating continued improvement next season.
