Shane Caudill: Making the Most of Second Chances

Shane Caudill, a native of Knott County, Kentucky, is a sophomore Business Administration major at Alice Lloyd College. When speaking of the College community, Shane states, “I’ve lived in Pippa Passes for almost my entire life, and Alice Lloyd College has been a part of it for just as long. Many of my family work here as employees, and I know many of the faculty and staff personally. This is one of the biggest benefits of having a smaller campus; you can interact with the staff and instructors directly. You never feel like you’re just another student, and it’s one of the reasons I chose to continue my education here.”

Katelyn Collins: Living a Life of Service

Katelyn Collins is a senior from Logan County, West Virginia, majoring in Sociology.  Upon graduation in 2019, she plans to work in a hospital or hospice as a Social Worker in Gerontology.  When asked why she chose to come to Alice Lloyd College, she explained, “I wanted to come to a small college that is close to home but also far away; I am only two hours from home which is perfect for me.”

Colbi Johnson: Giving Her All for Service

Colbi Johnson is an Alice Lloyd College sophomore who is a Knott County, Kentucky native seizing the opportunity to be a force of change in Central Appalachia by becoming a servant leader.  A 2016 graduate of Hazard High School, she excelled in both academic and athletic pursuits. Colbi was offered scholarships to a wide array of schools; however, based upon her mother’s experiences at Alice Lloyd College, she knew that there was a local school where she could “stay close, yet go far.”

Jasmine Ly has travelled from the bustling city of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to the calm mountains of Pippa Passes, Kentucky to further her education. Currently a junior Dual-Degree Nursing major at Alice Lloyd College, Jasmine has learned and experienced things in America that has laid the foundation for her future.

Seeing Double: Wilson Twins Leave Mark on Lady Eagles Basketball Program

When opposing teams take the court against the Alice Lloyd College women’s basketball team, they often do a double-take. At 17-4, the ALC Lady Eagles are off to the schools best record since 1996, and the resurgence has been largely led by a pair of remarkable sisters who are tearing up the court: 5’7 senior twin guards Kayla and Miranda Wilson.

Kaela Shaw is not one to let the hard times in life keep her down. Throughout Kaela’s life she has bounced back from countless trials as a stronger woman. The trials that Kaela has overcome have given her a desire to help others that may be struggling with similar circumstances. Alice Lloyd College has given Kaela the opportunity to make a difference in others’ lives-an opportunity that she will never forget.
