Berea, KY – The Alice Lloyd College Running Eagles/Lady Eagles Cross Country teams began their quest to return to the NCCAA Nationals as they opened the 2019 campaign in the competitive Berea College Jamboree over the weekend. 

Fresh off a 2nd place finish in the NCCAA DII Nationals last season, the women’s squad opened the day as 84 individual runners from eight different schools toed the line for the 2-mile race.

Alice Lloyd finished 4th of the 6 participating teams and were led by freshman Carlee Salyers in a solid time of 12:49, good enough for 14th place. She was followed by fellow-freshman Sydni Smith, who crossed the line in 31st  position with a time of 13:32. The next three finishers were junior Morgan Arthur (14:50), freshman Cara Acey (14:55), and sophomore Hannah Bryant (16:04). Freshmen Lauren Bryant (16:09), Jasmine Parker (16:22), and sophomore Nicole McMurray (17:17) also gave great effort to the cause.

On the men’s side of things, fresh off a 3rd place finish in the NCCAA DII Nationals last season, 80 individual runners from eight different schools toed the line for the 3.1-mile race.

Alice Lloyd finished 8th of the 8 participating teams and were led by sophomore Alex Lewis (17:25, 30th place), along with freshmen Jeremy Benjamin (19:28) and Preston Mullins (19:53) Additionally, freshman Bryson Sargent and sophomore Ty Reagan (21:57) gave a spirited effort as well.

Alice Lloyd will return to action on September 10th, as both squads travel to Winchester, Ky. to participate in the Run for the Water Barrel at Lykins Park. Start time is at 4pm.
