MIDWAY, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles traveled to Midway, Kentucky, to face the home-standing Midway University Lady Eagles on January 8th in an important River States Conference West Division showdown. The visitors jumped out to an early lead and made it hold up for the win, 77-66.

In the first period, the hosts led 9-8 with 2:31 showing. At that point, Alice Lloyd closed the period with an 11-2 run to take a 19-11 advantage after ten minutes.

In the second quarter, Midway would battle and reduce the deficit to just three (26-23) at the 3:07 mark, only to watch their foes control the final minutes of the period once more. The visiting Eagles would end things with a 9-3 burst, and lead 35-26 at intermission.

The third period saw ALC ease out to a 42-30 advantage. Unfortunately, the home squad responded with a spurt of their own. MU played their best ball of the night and would trail 52-36 heading into the final frame.

In the last quarter, Midway was determined to complete the comeback. When guard Jill Enix drained two free throws at 6:57, the score stood 56-52. The game was now anyone’s for the taking.

At this point, Alice Lloyd left no doubt as to why they are one of the top seeds in their division. On offense, they received eight big points from sophomore center Alex Clifton and six more from sophomore guard Haley Hall On defense, they produced some timely stops. When the dust settled, they had extended the advantage to double-digits and earned the satisfying victory.

For the winners from Caney Creek (8-5; 5-2 RSC), Clifton led all scorers with 20 points (9-11 FG) and was one of six players to snare 5 rebounds. Hall tossed in 13 points and led the team with 8 rebounds and 3 assists while junior guard Katie Moore chipped in with 10 points and 5 boards.

Senior center Emilee Harrell contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks of her own while junior forward Jayla Spurlock and senior guard Courtney Vasquez both added 3 assists each. Freshman guard Hannah Kash had 2 steals.

The victors shot 43.3% (26-60) from the floor and 30.8% (4-13) from downtown. They sank 72.4% (21-28) from the foul line and dominated the glass with 50 huge rebounds. They added 13 assists, and 4 steals.

Midway (5-8; 1-5 RSC) was led on the night by Enix with 18 points. Her squad shot 39.4% (26-66) from the field and 25% (4-16) from deep. They finished at 66.7% (10-15) from the charity stripe. They added 31 rebounds, 17 assists, and 8 steals.

ALC returns home on Thursday, January 10th, for an important conference showdown with Asbury University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
