Hiwassee, TN: On Saturday, September 22nd, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball squad traveled to Hiwassee to face the home-standing Hiwassee Tigers. The Lady Tigers had blasted the Lady Eagles in the season opener in Pippa Passes but Coach Nathan Hall’s scrappy Eagles turned the tables and earned the huge road victory.

In the opening game, ALC blew out to a commanding lead to win going away 25-16. The game 2 match was much tighter, but the Lady Eagles held on to win 25-22. The Tigers looked solid in game 3 and 4, as they earned 25-12 and 25-18 victories to force a fifth set. In game 5, HC broke out to a lead early, but the ladies from Caney Creek caught fire and battled back for the big 15-11 win to take the match.

ALC returned home to face the University of Pikeville Bears on Monday, September 24th. In the opening game, the two squads battled to a 15-13 score before the visitors pulled away down the stretch to win 25-16. The clubs both looked solid in game 2 as they battled to a 16-16 tie. However, UPike would close the set on a 9-2 run to earn the win, 25-19. In game 3, the visitors jumped out to a 13-6 advantage before ALC battled back once again within two points (15-13). Unfortunately, the Bears spurted away once more to win 25-16.

On the day for the hosts, juniors Haley Smith, Lindsey Perkins, and Samantha Sturgill all had 3 kills. Freshman Sara Howard led the team in both assists (10) and digs (8). Sturgill added 5 assists while Perkins and sophomore McKenzie Brewer each contributed 7 digs.
