Alice Lloyd College’s business program coordinator, Dr. Lenore Pollard is a woman of many talents and titles. While she is the Faculty President, Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) Coordinator, and Leadership Coordinator, Dr. Pollard considers “mom” to be her most prestigious title. In fact, family has always played a major role in her life.

Dr. Pollard was born in Oakland, California, but her father’s military career would take her across America and as far south as the Panama Canal Zone. Self-proclaiming herself as a military brat, her family relocated frequently and, as a result, she did not see snow for the first time until she was ten years old.

Her family eventually settled in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, where she became one of the first Crusaders of the newly established June Buchanan School. She was among the first class in 1984 and graduated in 1988. Realizing that she had a passion for teaching and an ambition to become Dr. Pollard, she continued her education at Alice Lloyd College. Dr. Pollard obtained her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Administration in 1992, she has since earned her Master’s in Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University and her Doctoral Degree in Leadership from the University of Phoenix.

Research, writing, teaching, reading, and interacting with students are what Dr. Pollard enjoys most. She believes doing all these things within ALC’s family atmosphere has had a profound impact on her life.  Alice Lloyd College’s bold and unyielding commitment to its students and the region manifests in that feeling of closeness and unity that faculty and students feel daily.

When she isn’t managing the College’s business program, Dr. Pollard stays busy with hiking, canoeing, and reading selections from her extensive library. She considers herself a huge Margaret George fan and is currently working her way through the works of William Faulkner. She cites “Man’s Search for Meaning”, by Viktor Frankl, as one of her favorite books and even occasionally lists it as required reading for her classes. When referencing her eclectic preference in books, she quips, “Don’t get me started on which Pink Floyd or Prince album is the best”, as her taste in music is just as diverse.

Her husband and college sweetheart, Bobby, principal of Knott County Central High School, lives in Hindman, Kentucky, with their three children – Faith (10), Mitchell (17), and Tannon (20). They are members of Hindman First Baptist Church and have served the College and this community for over 23 years. Even with a demanding career and juggling plenty of middle school speech competitions with her daughter, Dr. Pollard never wavers in her commitment to God, her family, and Alice Lloyd College.
