Haley Hall
Pippa Passes, KY: Freshman guard Haley Hall poured in a career-high 25 points as she connected on 6-10 three-point baskets to help lead the home standing Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles to a 77-71 conference victory over the Midway University Lady Eagles. The matchup took place Tuesday night.
In the opening quarter, ALC would have a battle on their hands as the visitors came ready to play from the tipoff. Midway would lead 18-16 after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, Hall began to find the range along with do-everything, twin sisters Kayla and Miranda Wilson. The trio helped lead an Alice Lloyd resurgence, as the host Eagles would win the period 18-11, to take a 34-29 lead at intermission.
As the third period began, Hall came out firing on all cylinders. She poured in 11 points over the first five minutes to help her club jump out to a 15 point advantage. However, sparked by guard Haleigh Yazell, Midway would respond with a late run. Her squad would still trail 59-53 after three quarters.
In the last quarter, ALC would extend their lead back to double digits. MU would make one last spurt, but they never got closer than six points the rest of the way.
For Alice Lloyd (11-2; 6-1 RSC), Hall led a balanced attack with 25 points on 9-15 field goals (6-10 3pt FG). She added 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Kayla Wilson provided her all-around solid game with 15 points (3-7 3pt FG), 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal while Miranda Wilson had a double-double with 12 points (3-4 3pt FG) and 10 assists. She added 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Sophomore forward Jayla Spurlock also reached double digits as she knocked down 11 points (3-6 3pt FG). Freshman center Alexandria Clifton added 8 points and 6 rebounds.
Alice Lloyd finished shooting 42% (29-69) from the field and an exceptional 48.5% (16-33) from long range. Strangely, they connected on just 42.9% (3-7) from the foul line. They also added 36 rebounds, 25 assists, and 7 steals.
Midway (9-8; 3-4 RSC) was led by Yazell with 20 points. Her club finished shooting 42.6% (26-61) from the floor and 38.9% (7-18) from behind the arc. They shot 75% (12-16) from the foul line. They also added 36 rebound, 13 assists, and 11 steals.
ALC returns to action on Thursday, January 11 when they travel to Wilmore to face the Asbury University Lady Eagles in a major showdown at 5:30 pm.
