PIPPA PASSES, KY:  The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles overcame a 15 point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime, but suffered a heart-breaking 94-91 decision at the hands of the Milligan College Lady Buffaloes.

In the opening period, the NAIA’s 24th ranked Buffaloes battled the hosts in a see-saw affair. When ALC senior guard Miranda Wilson drained a three point bucket with .07 left, ALC led 20-19.

In the second period, the two evenly matched clubs traded hoops the entire way. Once more, Miranda Wilson gave her club a lead (38-36) as she sank two last second free throws.

The third quarter belonged to Milligan. After Alice Lloyd grabbed their largest lead of the night (50-45) on freshman Haley Hall’s trifecta with 7:08 remaining, the visitors would close the period on a 21-9 run to lead 66-59 heading into the last stanza.

MC would come out of the huddle looking to salt the game away. An 8-0 blitz gave the Buffaloes a commanding 74-59 lead, and the hot-shooting visitors appeared to be home-free. However, someone forgot to tell the Lady Eagles that the game was finished.

Sparked by 9 points from twins Miranda and Kayla Wilson, and a stifling defense, the Eagles would go on an inspired 18-3 run over the next six minutes to tie things at 77 with 1:22 remaining, and bring the crowd to a fever pitch.

The teams would match free throws until Milligan’s duo of Courtney Wilson and Sarah Robinson sank a bucket and two free-throws to give their club an 83-80 lead with just .07 remaining. On the inbounds play, Lady Eagle Kayla Wilson would race down the court and fire a 23 foot bomb with one second remaining. The crowd erupted at the shot swished the nylon to force overtime.

In OT, both clubs played inspired ball as neither wanted to fall short after playing so hard. Unfortunately, Milligan sank a few clutch free throws and went up again by three. This time, they fouled Wilson before she could get off the potential game tying bomb, and the visitors held on for the 94-91win.

For Alice Lloyd (3-1), four players reached double figures. Guards Kayla and Miranda Wilson led all scorers with 23 and 20 points apiece. They also combined to sink 7-15 from deep. Kayla had a double-double as she snagged 11 rebounds and added 4 assists and 3 steals. Miranda added her own double-double with 11 assists and 5 steals.

Also reaching double-digits were junior center Emilie Harrell and Hall, each with 15. Harrell added 8 boards.

The Lady Buffs (2-2) were led by 17 points from Robinson.

Alice Lloyd finished shooting 38.4% (33-86) from the field and 32.4% (11-34) from deep while connecting on 82.4% (14-17) from the foul line. They also added 32 rebounds, 19 assists, and 14 steals.

MC finished shooting 58.1% (34-60) from the floor and 7-24 % (29.2%) from behind the arc. They shot 76% (19-25) from the foul line. They also added 42 rebounds, 12 assists, and 5 steals
