Swannanoa, NC:  The Alice Lloyd College Eagles scored a school record 125 road points as they opened the 2017-18 campaign by defeating the home-standing Warren Wilson College Owls on Saturday.

In the opening half, both teams came out firing on all cylinders. By intermission, ALC held a slim 58-55 lead.

In the second half, WWC would regain the lead over the first four minutes only to watch the Eagles go on a run to push the advantage to twenty-one points. The hosts would slice the deficit to six points, but the visitors would seal the deal from the charity stripe.

For the victors (1-0,) they had five players reach double figures. They were led in scoring by freshman guard Timmy Dalton, who poured in an opening-game record of 36 points. Dalton finished 9-13 from the floor, 3-5 from deep, and an impressive 15-16 from the charity line. He also added 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

 He was joined in scoring by big senior center Jake Allen, who fished with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Allen sank 5-9 from the floor and he added 2 blocks.

 Senior point guard Austin Crisp finished with 15 points on 7-11 field goals and dished off 9 assists. Athletic sophomore guard Blake Smith, and sharp-shooting junior guard Ryan House also added 15 points apiece. Both players finished 5-8 from the floor while Smith was 3-4 from long range and House finished 4-7.

The Owls (1-2) had 7 players finish with double digits. Kahlon Whitley led the way with 21 points.

Alice Lloyd was red-hot from the floor, shooting 60% (39-65), and they were even better from behind the arc, shooting 63.6% (14-22). They finished 70.2% (33-47) from the foul line. They also added 47 rebounds and 26 assists.

Warren Wilson finished shooting 42% (37-88) from the floor and was 36% (18-50) from behind the arc. They shot 84.6% (22-26) from the foul line. They also added 30 rebounds and 28 assists.

Alice Lloyd plays their home opener on Tuesday when they face the Kentucky Christian Knights. Game time is set for 8:00 pm, following the conclusion of the women’s game.
