Alice Lloyd College Coach Scott Cornett, who guided the ALC baseball Eagles to their first-ever national championship appearance, was just announced as the 2017 NCCAA Mid-East Region Coach of the Year.

Cornett guided his young Eagles on an undefeated run through the regional playoffs as he had his squad playing their best ball of the season when it counted the most.

Cornett’s team started the historic feat by winning their first two contests in convincing fashion to advance to the Mid-East Regional finals. They then upset the top seeded and host Bluefield College Rams 6-5 to claim the first championship in school history. These victories earned ALC an automatic bid to the 2017 NCCAA World Series, held at beautiful Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.

Cornett is a native of Leslie County and a 1989 graduate of Alice Lloyd College. He just completed his 27th year as the head coach of his alma mater.
