PIPPA PASSES, KY – The Alice Lloyd College Eagles concluded the regular season by knocking off the visiting Indiana University Kokomo Cougars over the weekend, 88-82. The River States Conference game was played on Saturday.

In the opening half, sparked by thirteen points from junior forward Jake Allen as well as a combined 15 points from junior guard Austin Crisp and sophomore forward Sean Ross ALC would lead by as much as nine points. They would settle for a 42-36 lead at intermission.

In the second half, the Eagles would hold on to their early lead and get a highlight dunk in traffic from freshman guard Blake Smith. They would extend it to as high as nine (66-57) following a hoop from sophomore guard Ryan House with 10:47 left. The visitors, however, would refuse to fold.

Kokomo would battle and eventually come back to take their first lead (75-73) on two Trent Elliott free throws with a little more than five minutes to play.

The clubs would trade hoops for several minutes, but things began to look dark for the boys from Caney Creek after IUK took an 82-79 advantage with just 1:42 showing, following Eric Miller’s big trifecta. Now it was the hosts turn to step up.

On their next possession, the Eagles came down and saw Crisp sink a nice 18-foot jumper to reduce the deficit to one (82-81) with 1:31 to play. Kokomo then threw the ball away on their next play, as Ross stole the pass to give his squad a chance to regain the lead.  Then, with .56 remaining, Alice Lloyd’s House literally brought the “house” down by swishing a massive three point attempt.  After the dramatic turn of events, ALC suddenly led 84-82, as the crowd went wild.

After two more errant shots by the scrappy visitors were grabbed by Eagle rebounders, Crisp and Allen would close out the scoring for the victors with 4 consecutive charity tosses.

For ALC (12-18; 8-10 RSC), Allen led a trio of double-figure scorers with 25 points and added 7 boards. Ross played perhaps his best game of the season sinking 18 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and gaining 3 steals. Crisp contributed 15 points while adding 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Additionally, sophomore forward Simon Christon grabbed 10 big rebounds while House contributed 8 points and 2 steals.

Alice Lloyd shot 44.3 (31-70) from the field and 23.8 % (5-21) from long range. From the charity line, they drained 80.8% (21-26). Additionally, they registered 49 rebounds, 7 steals, 12 assists, and 3 blocks.

Kokomo (10-20, 5-13 RSC) was led by Elliott with 24 points. His club connected on 40.9% (27-66) from the field and 34.4% (11-32) from long range. They attempted 23 free throws, sinking 17 (73.9%) and also had 29 rebounds, 6 steals, and 10 assists.

The Eagles receive some well-earned rest before they return to action in the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament the week of March 6. The exact dates and locations will be announced as soon as they are released.
