Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles led early, fell behind by sixteen points in the second half, and then rallied to within three before succumbing at the hands of the Midway University Lady Eagles 69-57. The game was a River States Conference matchup held Saturday night.

ALC opened the game with a height disadvantage as they attempt to battle one of the league’s top clubs. In a low scoring affair, at the end of ten minutes, MU led 11-7.

The second quarter opened in Alice Lloyds favor as junior guard Kayla Wilson scored the first five points to give her squad the lead (12-11) at 8:10. Unfortunately, the hosts would then go ice cold. Midway would go on a 19-2 run over the next eight minutes to pull ahead, and the visiting Eagles would comfortably lead 32-16 at intermission.

In the third quarter, the host club would finally start to warm up as they hit four consecutive three-pointers to eat into the deficit. They would put up 24 big points, but still trail 50-40 with one quarter remaining.

In the final stanza, Alice Lloyd would feed the ball inside to junior forward Sara Robinson who began posting at will. Her strong play would inspire her teammates, and they would reduce the deficit to just three (60-57) with 3:33 remaining.

The home crowd would get more excited when ALC would once again stop the visitors on the next series and get the ball back. On their next offensive possession, the host Eagles would get a good look to tie the score, but the shot just rimmed out. They would get the ball back once more and get a second chance to score, but unfortunately saw that shot come up just short as well

Midway would settle down and get a second-chance layup on their next possession. They would then salt the game away from the charity line.

For ALC (6-8; 2-6 RSC) Robinson would lead the way with 18 points, 14 coming in the second half. She would complete a double-double as she hauled down 10 rebounds. Wilson finished with 13 points and led the club with 3 steals. She joined sophomore guard Whitney Evans as each handed out 3 assists.

The hosts connected on 34.8% (24-69) from the field and 26.5 % (9-34) from long range. Incredibly, they attempted only 2 free throws (which were taken with just 2:02 remaining in the game) and missed both.  They also had 37 rebounds, 5 steals, 13 assists, and 1 block.

Midway (15-5; 6-2 RSC) was led by Breanna Ball with 20 points. Her club connected on 39% (23-59) from the field and 28.6% (6-21) from long range. They won the contest from the charity line, sinking 77.3% (17-22) and also had 47 rebounds, 5 steals, 10 assists, and 2 blocks.

The Lady Eagles return to action this Tuesday when they face the 12-7 Rio Grande Red Storm in conference play. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
