SWANNANOA, NC– The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles fought the good fight for forty minutes but still dropped a disappointing 80-78 decision on a buzzer beater to the home standing Warren Wilson Owls on Saturday afternoon.

In the first quarter, ALC got 7 points from guard Miranda Wilson and held a 20-19 lead.

In stanza number two, senior Bailey O’Bryan came off the bench to pump in 8 points and spark her club. The Eagles led 41-34 at intermission.

In the third quarter, O’Bryan and Wilson accounted for 17 of the Eagles points, but Warren Wilson battled to keep the contest close and outscored their guests 23-19 to reduce the deficit to 60-57.

In the last quarter, the game remained tight. The hosts crept ahead and sank two free throws to lead 78-75 with just 15 seconds remaining.  In need of a three, Alice Lloyd got the ball to O’Bryan who found Jayla Spurlock on a nice skip pass. The freshman coolly drained the clutch three-pointer from the left wing with 7 seconds remaining to knot things up at 78.

However, the Lady Owls did not take a timeout and found guard Amber Godfrey. She dribbled down court and hit center Allison Church under the basket with a pass.  Unfortunately for the visitors, her layup at the buzzer spelled defeat for the girls from Caney Creek.

For the victors (2-1), Jada McCrimmon led all scorers with 24 points.

The Eagles (1-1) were led by O’Bryan with 22 points and Wilson with 18. Twin sister Kayla Wilson added 12 points.

Alice Lloyd will be off until November 15th when they travel to Morehead, Ky. where they have a matchup with NCAA opponent Morehead State University. Game time is set at 12 noon.
