CINCINNATI, OH: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles played well in the first half but were unable to maintain their momentum and fell 60-80 to the home-standing Cincinnati Christian University Lady Eagles last night. The game was the River States Conference opener for both clubs.

ALC opened the game relying on their bread and butter. Sparked by senior forward Amber Shepherd, the visitors were firing from outside and led 21-19 after one quarter.

The second quarter was also close throughout and Alice Lloyd received solid play from junior forward Sara Robinson. However, a late bucket by the host Eagles gave them a 40-38 lead at intermission. The hosts outshot their foe 47% to 36% in the first twenty minutes.

In the second half, CCU elected to use their inside strength. They began to slow down the Alice Lloyd pace and pound the ball inside to their 6’1 twin towers, Aly Balser and Baylee Wallace. Sparked by their inside presence, the hosts took a 60- 51 lead into the last quarter.

In the final stanza, CCU point guard Brittany Wells joined her teammates as they scored the bulk of their clubs points. The visiting Eagles went ice cold, which allowed the home club to earn the victory.

For ALC (4-2; 0-1 RSC) Shepherd led the way tossing in 18 points on 7-17 field goals and 4-10 from beyond the arc. Robinson battled her taller opponents all night inside contributing a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She drained 7-12 field goals and led her squad with 3 assists. Sophomore Whitney Evans provided a spark off the bench with 9 points.

Alice Lloyd connected on a chilly 34.3% (24-70) from the field and 26.7% (8-30) from long range. They attempted 7 free throws, hitting 4 (57.1%) and also had 38 rebounds, 10 steals, 11 assists, and 3 blocks.

The host Eagles (3-6; 1-0 RSC) placed three players in double-figures, led by Wells with 22 points. Balser and Wallace each added a double-double (16 points, 12 rebounds; 13 points, 13 rebounds)

They connected on a solid 47.6% (30-63) from the field and 33.3% (1-3) from long range. They attempted 28 free throws, hitting 19 (67.9%) and also had 49 big rebounds, 10 steals, 9 assists, and 4 blocks.

The Lady Eagles return to action this weekend when they travel to Kokomo, Indiana to face the challenging Indiana University Kokomo Lady Cougars in conference play. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm.
