Alice Lloyd College has just been featured in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. In the article entitled  “10 Colleges Where Tuition is Free,”  ALC was recognized alongside other well-acclaimed colleges such as the College of the Ozarks, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Military Academy. Alice Lloyd College guarantees the full cost of tuition primarily due to financial support from friends across the country. Additionally, Alice Lloyd College accepts no direct government funding and has no long-term debt.

The article recognizes ALC’s Appalachian Leaders College Scholarship, which guarantees tuition for students from a 108 county area that spans portions of Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Full-time students are eligible for the Tuition Guarantee Scholarship and are required to work a minimum of 10 hours each week. The students are placed in a variety of jobs and positions ranging from receptionists and computer technicians to groundskeepers and workers at the Child Development Center.

The Appalachian Leaders College Scholarship helps build a strong work ethic while enabling ALC’s students to get the best education possible and graduate with little or no debt. Director of Student Work Program, Kerry Ratliff said, “Not only do the students gain work experience and receive financial assistance from the Work Study Program here at ALC, they also take pride in their contributions to the integral activities of day to day life on campus.”

The faculty and staff at Alice Lloyd College believe that building strong leaders for tomorrow is just as important as graduating scholars. Through the Appalachian Leaders College Scholarship, ALC is able to accomplish both tasks, allowing more students to reach heights they never thought possible.
