JBS/ALC Child Development Center student workers pose for a photo dressed as characters from “The Wizard of Oz”

Various Alice Lloyd College student organizations brought an abundance of smiles to hundreds of area children this Halloween as they hosted the seventh annual Trunk-or-Treat in Pippa Passes. The event took place on an absolutely gorgeous evening on October 31st from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.

ALC’s Dean of Students and head baseball coach, Scott Cornett, helped organize the festivities. “Our goal each year in planning this event is to get all of our student groups, clubs, organizations, and athletes involved in a community project. We also wanted to give young men and women the opportunity to give a little something back to the region that has been so supportive of us. This year was the biggest crowd we have seen so we know it is working.”

During Trunk-or-Treat, groups of college students set up displays across campus and loaded their trunks full of tasty treats that the little ghosts, goblins, superheroes, and princesses enjoyed. This year, many of the clubs increased the “WOW” factor as they dressed in not only costumes but selected elaborate themes such as “101 Dalmatians” and “The Wizard of Oz.” The college students were very attentive as the children made their way down campus, taking time to talk to each child and offer comments on the many great costumes that evening.

Janet Johnson, Director of Career Services, has organized the ALC Trunk-or-Treat event for seven years. She is very pleased and grateful for the efforts of ALC’s students, faculty, and staff for helping make this event possible. With the help of the ALC community, this year’s Trunk-or-Treat had over 3600 bags of toys and candy to distribute to the local children.

Dustan and Mary Turner commented that ALC’s Trunk-or-Treat event is the only place they take their children, Audrey and Averie, on Halloween. This is in part due to the wonderful example they feel the college students set for their girls. Mary Turner also said, “Trunk-or-Treat on ALC campus is a fantastic time for all the kids. It is nice to come to a clean, wholesome, family-oriented environment that is both fun and safe. The ALC students, faculty, staff and community members who participated enjoyed the night as much as the children!”
