A large crowd was on hand October 10th as the June Buchanan Middle School Lady Crusaders held eighth-grade night before their contest against Riverside.

The school took the time to recognize four young student-athletes for their contributions to both the school and basketball program.

Hannah Hall is the daughter of Chris and Tracy Hall of Hindman and has one brother, Lucas. She is the granddaughter of Reda and Delmas Slone as well as Nora and the late Junior Hall.

Hannah has been a member of the basketball team for 3 seasons.  She is also a member of the Choir.

While at JBS, her outstanding artwork enabled her to be awarded as the Grand Champion of the 2016 Regional Coal Fair.

Her favorite subject is Literature and her hobbies include basketball, hunting, fishing, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Jonnua Reed is the daughter of John and Tonya Reed of Carrie. She is the granddaughter of Tom and Jesse Watts as well as Mary Reed and the late Thomas Reed.

Jonnua has been a member of the basketball team for 5 seasons. 

While at JBS, she has won first place in the Science Fair, been named to the Dean’s List, and won multiple subject awards.

Her favorite subject is Social Studies and her hobbies include playing basketball, reading, playing video games, drawing, and joking with her teammates.

Natalie Sahay is the daughter of  Chandon and Sarina Sahay of Hazard. She has one sister, Destiny. She is the granddaughter of Ellis Gibson and the late Georgie Gibson as well as Billy and Joann Baird

Natalie has been a member of the basketball team for 2 seasons.  She is also a member of the Academic Team and the Studio Unlimited Gymnastics Team.

While at JBS, she has been on the Dean’s List and been the Spelling Bee Champion.

Her favorite subjects are Math and Science and her hobbies include basketball, gymnastics, and laughing with her friends.

Elisabeth Stepp is the daughter of Gary and Lisa Stepp of Pippa Passes. She is the granddaughter of Miss Irma Stepp and the late Joseph Stepp as well as Sandra Gloshen and the late Bill Gloshen.

Elisabeth has been a member of the basketball team for 4 seasons.  She is also a member of the JBS Tennis Team and Academic Team

While at JBS, she has been the District Champion in Arts and Humanities as well as a two-time state qualifier for placing second and fourth in the region. She also was one of only 100 students statewide to qualify for the State Geography Bee. She has been an honor roll member, and her poetry enabled her to be named as the Regional Champion in the 2016 Coal Fair

Her favorite subject is Social Studies and her hobbies include playing basketball and tennis, reading, traveling, and playing video games.
