2015-16 KIAC Women's Basketball Tournament Bracket

FLORENCE, Ky. — The 2015-16 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament bracket is set. The eight-team, single-elimination tournament had its pairings and seedings finalized Saturday night by the KIAC office, shortly after the conclusion of the final day of the regular season. 

The KIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament gets underway on Wednesday, Feb. 24 with four games in the first round. The semifinals are Feb. 27, and the finals are March 1. The higher seed hosts each individual game, and the tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship March 9-15 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

The top four teams from each of the KIAC Colonial and Capital Divisions qualified for the tournament. The top two teams in each division will host first-round games. The first-round pairings crossover the two divisions. 

No. 1 overall seed Asbury (Ky.) University (20-9, 16-2 KIAC) is already guaranteed of a national tournament bid with the best conference record in the regular season. The Eagles are the champions of the KIAC Capital Division and enter the tournament as one of two No. 1 seeds and division champions. Asbury hosts Carlow (Pa.) University (14-13, 7-10 KIAC), the No. 4 seed out of the KIAC Colonial Division, on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.

Also in Asbury’s half of the bracket is the University of Rio Grande (19-9, 12-5 KIAC), the No. 2 seed out of the KIAC Colonial. The Red Storm host a first round game versus Indiana University Southeast (14-14, 11-7 KIAC), the No. 3 seed out of the KIAC Capital, on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.

Indiana University East (20-9, 15-2 KIAC) is the other No. 1 seed and comes in as the champion of the KIAC Colonial Division. The Red Wolves have home court advantage throughout the tournament and including the finals, as long as they are alive. They play the first game of the tournament on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m.when they host Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College (12-17, 6-12 KIAC), the No. 4 seed out of the KIAC Capital.

The other game in IU East’s half of the bracket features Brescia (Ky.) University (18-13, 13-5 KIAC), the No. 2 seed from the KIAC Capital, hosting No. 3 seed Point Park (Pa.) University (19-10, 12-5 KIAC) from the KIAC Colonial. That game is Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. ET.
