Women vs IUK 2Pippa Passes: Junior guard Amber Shepherd and sophomore forward Sara Robinson combined for 39 points to lead the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles to a 73-66 victory over the Midway University Eagles Tuesday night.

Playing in their third game in four days, Coach John Mills’ home club came out of the gates on fire by draining three consecutive long range bombs over the first 3:18 to sprint ahead 11-3.

Shepherd and Robinson then went on a tear by scoring the next 10 Alice Lloyd points to lift their squad to a 21-5 lead. The host Eagles held a 25-15 advantage after one quarter of play.

In the second stanza, the visitors sliced the score to 30-22 with 5:23 remaining, but ALC closed the half on an 18-8 run. When freshman center Andrea Rankin sank a bucket just ahead of the buzzer, she sent the home club into the locker room with a decisive 48-30 lead.

In the third quarter, Alice Lloyd went cold from the field. Seeing a chance to get back in the game, Midway turned to guard Jariana Gillespie. The quick ball handler delivered by scoring 8 points, and she helped her squad whittle the deficit to 10 (57-47) by quarters end.

In the final stanza, the hosts had a battle on their hands as the visiting Eagles remained in striking distance. Midway would get as close as 70-66 before Shepherd and Robinson would slam the door shut by connecting on 3-4 late charity tosses.

For the victors (10-13; 5-8 KIAC), Shepherd led the way by sinking 6-10 field goals (including 5 three point bombs) and all 4 free throw attempts for 21 points. Robinson connected on 8-10 from the floor to finish with a career high 18 points.  She added 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Also making major contributions were sophomore center Taylor Arthur with 8 points, 3 assists, 9 rebounds, and a game high 4 blocks, as well as junior guard Tailor Morgan, who chipped in with 8 points and a dished out a game high 6 assists.

Midway (0-24; 0-11 KIAC) was led by Gillespie with 26 points and 6 assists.
