IMG_9110-15PIPPA PASSES: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles concluded the regular season by dropping a close 55-47 decision to the visiting Lady Trailblazers of Ohio Christian University, 55-47 Saturday night.

Before the contest, lone senior Megan Jones was honored for her outstanding contributions to the Lady Eagles program.

In the opening quarter, the hosts looked poised to run away with the game on senior night as they jumped out to an early 10-1 lead with 5:20 remaining after four different players connected from the field.

Ohio Christian settled down and began to slice into the lead, but ALC still led 14-9 after the first.

In the second stanza, the Eagles went cold, which permitted the Lady Trailblazers to inch closer. They knotted things up for the first time at 17-17 with 4:23 remaining, and used their momentum to outscore the Lady Eagles 21-10 in the quarter. At intermission, OCU led 30-24.

In the third quarter, Alice Lloyd tightened up the defensive screws and held Ohio Christian to just 6 points over the first 7:04. The hosts regained the lead at 37-36 on a bucket from junior guard Amber Shepherd, but watched the Lady Trailblazers close on a 7-3 run to take a 43-41 lead at the horn.

In the crucial final quarter, a Shepherd bucket with exactly 6:00 remaining had ALC trailing 47-45, but the Lady Eagles went stone cold, getting just two points the rest of the way, and the visitors were able to close out the win.

For ALC (12-17, 6-12 KIAC), Shepherd connected on 5-13 field goals (3-7 from deep) and 4-4 from the charity stripe, to lead the way with 17 points. Freshman India Hairston-James chipped in with 10 points and 3 assists. Jones, playing her last game at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center, connected on 3-6 field goals (2-3 three point buckets) for 8 points. She added 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Sophomore Taylor Arthur hauled down a game –high 12 rebounds and added 2 blocks.

Ohio Christian was led by Erinn Bailey with 17 points and 7 rebounds.
