GolfThe ALC men’s Golf team competed in the Georgetown Invitational Golf Tournament at The Slammer and Squire Golf Course in St. Augustine, Florida February 21-23, 2016. The tournament was as good as the golfers could have hoped for. The weather was perfect, 75-80 degrees with partly cloudy skies every day. Some of the players came away with sunburns! The venue was excellent, and they provided outstanding service. Georgetown College (KY) did a fine job hosting the event.

The competition was the best the Eagles have seen so far, with very strong teams from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS, (Ranked 52nd in the NAIA), Dalton State University in Dalton, Georgia (Ranked 18th in the NAIA) and Indiana Tech, in Fort Wayne Indiana (Ranked 33rd in the NAIA) in the field along with host Georgetown College (KY), Covenant College, Lookout Mountain Georgia, and Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta (SCAD, Atlanta). ALC golfers had the opportunity to play in groups with the strongest players in the field, which was a fantastic learning experience for our team.

The golf course was a fairly easy, wide open layout, with very difficult greens. The greens proved to be a stout defense for the course, with few players shooting better than par. Eagles golfers did not score well, shooting 366 for the first round and 386 for the second round for a team score of 752 for the two rounds, which is our worst result of the 2015/2016 year by far. Jared Albright lead the Eagles with 89/87 for a two round total of 176.

We look for much better play in Pine Mountain, Georgia at Point University’s Skyhawk Classic at Callaway Gardens March 14 – 15, and Friendly with IU East at Rarity Bay in Tennessee on March 16th.
