Earlier this week the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagle’s softball team traveled to Midway, Kentucky to take on the rival Midway College Eagles. This two game series was a rescheduled matchup due to a rain out earlier this month. MC had won the 2 previous games in back and forth style as they prevailed over two hotly battled matches. As they have done frequently this season, ALC fought all the way, just barely coming up short,11-12 and 13-14. However, this time the story would end a little differently as the visiting Eagle’s would walk away with their first conference win of the season in impressive fashion, 8-0.

The team in the past has battled hard all season  but struggled getting the  one key hit they needed to put them over the top. Fortunately, this was not the case in the opener as the victory displayed all of the best batting and pitching the guests had to offer. Seniors Tori Price and Megan Boswell along with junior Kayla Stambaugh all came up with run producing hits in a 7 run second inning that enabled Alice Lloyd to cruise to the 8-0 win. On the mound, freshman fireball Morgan Albury was a crucial help to the Eagle’s defense as she pitched brilliantly, tossing a 2 hit shutout while striking out 6 batters. The second game would once again come down to a nail-biter between the evenly matched teams as the visitors were in search of a sweep. ALC was forced to go two extra innings before unfortunately succumbing in the bottom of the ninth, 11-12.  Boswell suffered an ankle injury in the contest and her status is uncertain.

The Lady Eagles softball team is back in action this weekend with a 4 game series against Brescia. The opening game starts Friday at 4 PM at Knott County Central’s Softball field while the opening pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 10AM. Senior Day activities will also take place on Saturday.
