The Alice Lloyd Eagles baseball team closed the regular season on the road at conference rival Asbury University. The Eagles entered the day needing a split to hold on to the fifth seed in the upcoming KIAC Tournament. Below are recaps of each game.

Asbury exploded for 12 runs over the first two innings and coasted to the series opening victory.

Eagle Chance Westerfield took to the mound looking to hand the visitors the victory, but ran into the hot bats of the host club as ALC was outhit 18-10. Trae Minton and Greg Wright each had 2 hits for the Eagles with Minton adding 2 RBI’s.

Game 2

ALC-2; AU-1

703

Entering the game in a tie for fifth place and needing a huge effort on the mound, Coach Scott Cornett turned to Broderick Moore to contain the Asbury bats.  With tournament seeding at stake, Moore tossed his best game of the year to propel the visitors to the 2-1 win.

ALC scored quickly in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, Asbury settled down at the plate and held the Eagles scoreless over the next five innings. AU managed to score an unearned run off of Moore in the fifth, and the game was knotted at 1-1 entering the last inning.

In the seventh, a pair of seniors came up huge. First, Minton walked to reach base, then advanced to second on a groundout.  Next, with one out, Kevin Smith drove in the go-ahead run with a clutch line drive. With his club now clinging to a one run lead, Moore then retired Asbury to ice the contest. The pitcher finished the game by allowing just 5 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 1.

Alice Lloyd will now open KIAC Tournament play on Wednesday as they face the Bearcats of Brescia in the opening round. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM and will take place at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tennessee. You can watch the game live here
