The Alice Lloyd men’s hoops squad journeyed to Barbourville, Kentucky on Monday, November 17th to battle the 16th ranked Union College Bulldogs. The Eagles were never able to get into any kind of rhythm as Union dismantled ALC, 87-50.
This was the first game that the Eagles had played in nine days. Also, the visitors were playing without starting point guard Austin Crisp. ALC was able to keep it close for about the first eight minutes, with the score being 14-10 in favor of Union. The hosts held a 20-14 lead with nine minutes remaining in the opening half but then went on a 15-5 to take a 35-23 lead with 2:20 to go. Alice Lloyd would go into the half trailing by eleven, 37-26.
Things would unravel for ALC in the second half. An eleven point halftime deficit for the Eagles suddenly became an eighteen point hole with sixteen minutes left in the second stanza (46-28). The Bulldogs extended their advantage over the remainder of the half as the visitors were not able to reduce the deficit.
Alice Lloyd was held to a frigid 24 percent shooting on this night (13 for 54) while going just 4 for 23 (17 percent) from three-point land and 20 of 32 from the free throw line (62 percent). Union made 41 percent of their field goal attempts (30 for 72) while capitalizing on 5 threes on 26 tries (19 percent) and were 22 for 29 (75 percent) from the charity stripe. Union won the rebounding battle but not by much, 48-43.
Deondre Warren’s 16 points for Alice Lloyd (2-3) was the high for the game. Warren also had a team-high 8 rebounds. Cody Malicoat was the only other player to reach double figures with 13 points. Malicoat also corralled 7 boards.
T.J Jones paced the victors (5-1, 2-0 AAC) with 12 points.
