The Alice Lloyd Eagles hosted the Brescia Bearcats on Sunday, February 23rd. The Eagles used a great defensive performance and got scoring from everyone as the home team won in convincing fashion, 82-67.

It was the final home games for seniors Isaac Wilson and local standout Stuart Stamper. (Stamper hails from nearby Hindman, KY.) The two guards were honored prior to the game as part of the Senior Day festivities. The Eagles were looking to take a home victory and grab some momentum prior to the KIAC tournament.

ALC came out ready to play as the team jumped out to a 14-11 lead with 14:12 remaining in the first half. The hosts would go on a 12-6 run to extend their lead over the visitors on the scoreboard to make it 26-17 with 3:04 left. Alice Lloyd traded baskets the rest of the half with BU and took a 32-26 halftime lead.

Early on in second half action, ALC led BU by six (48-42). Coach J.R. Hammond threw in some man-to-man full court pressure with about eleven minutes remaining, and it paid dividends immediately. What was once a relatively close game turned in favor of the hosts as ALC took a commanding 67-50 cushion with seven minutes to play. ALC led 69-54 with five minutes to go when Wilson and Stamper were replaced. The crowd gave a tremendous standing ovation for the two seniors. Alice Lloyd emptied their bench, which gave those players a chance to get valuable minutes and experience for the future. The hosts largest lead was eighteen (78-60), and they settled for the fifteen-point victory.

Alice Lloyd (13-14, 8-9 KIAC) was led by Cody Stumbo with 22 points and 5 rebounds. Tyler Rogers generated a double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds). Stamper and Devon Mills both had 9 points, while Wilson tallied 2 points and 4 rebounds.

Brescia’s (16-11, 10-7 KIAC) Hunter Rowe scored 16 points.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday, February 25th, as they open KIAC Tournament play versus Brescia. Brescia, one of the top four seeds in the tournament, will play host in this quarterfinal matchup. Game time is set for 8 PM. The winner will advance to the Final Four.
