Dr. Anthony Yonts, Class of ’99

Alice Lloyd College alumni are making a difference in Appalachia, and Dr. Anthony Yonts is one excellent example of that. Raised in Bevinsville, Kentucky, Yonts attended The June Buchanan School, graduating in 1996. Just three years later, Yonts graduated from Alice Lloyd College with a Bachelor of Science degree. He went on to graduate from the University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003 and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics from the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

“Becoming a doctor was always something that I wanted to do and be,” said Dr. Yonts. “It was something that I knew I could use to give back to my community, which has given so much to me. Attending ALC was a pivotal part to this goal. The education was excellent, but more importantly, I learned to enhance my character and work ethic. I was also fortunate enough to be a Caney Scholar, which had significant financial implications during my post-graduate education. The Caney Scholars Program is an extension of Alice Lloyd College and reminded me that once you are family, you are always family … something that I will be forever grateful for.”

When asked about Yonts, Jim Stepp, ALC’s Executive Vice President, said, “Anthony Yonts is one of the finest examples of the high-quality alumni produced by Alice Lloyd College. He was one of the best in his class in medical school, and I have also heard many comments that he has outstanding communication and people skills to go with his professional abilities. We are very proud of Anthony and the service he is providing to so many people throughout eastern Kentucky.”

Yonts is also a two-time winner of the Medical Educator of the Year Award and the Clinical Excellence in Medical Education Award, both awards bestowed by the University of Pikeville.

Currently, Dr. Yonts is a physician and co-owner at Quantum Health Care in Hazard, Kentucky. He is active in his local church and is an Upward Bound basketball coach.

About his success, Yonts said, “I have a deep faith in God and truly feel blessed to have the life and family that I have.”
