Alice Lloyd went north of the border on Tuesday to take on the UC Clermont College Cougars. The Cougars were dedicating a brand new facility – the Brian Wilson Baseball Field. Following is a recap of the two-game series, which was played in Batavia, Ohio.
Alice Lloyd decided to start Chance Westerfield for the opening game of the series. ALC began the top of the first well with a run scored but gave up three to UC Clermont in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles came back with three runs in the third, but again, the Cougars answered with two in the bottom of the third to lead 5-4. UCC would add on runs in the latter stages of the game.
Shane Pack and Bobby Caldwell were the RBI guys in this game for ALC. Westerfield went three innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. Greg Wright and Patrick Barnett pitched the other three innings in relief. They would allow 8 runs (6 earned) on 7 base hits.
Game two of the series would see Aaron Boling start on the mound for ALC. There was no score until the bottom of the third when the Cougars added a run to take the lead. They would add another one in the fourth before busting the game open with five runs in the fifth. Alice Lloyd did get four runners home in the sixth to make it a two-run game, but ultimately, the deficit was too much for the Eagles to overcome.
Cody Hyden, Josh Arnold, Will Hamilton and Joey Stamper drove in runs for the Eagles. Boling pitched four innings, as he gave up just two hits and two runs. Mackenzie Hicks and Jordan Horn pitched the remaining two innings of the game. The two relief pitchers surrendered 4 hits and 7 runs (6 earned).
