Five 7th grade students at The June Buchanan School have been recognized by Duke University for their outstanding performance on their grade-level achievement tests.  Colton Jacobs, Trey Moore, Jake Long, Ruby Yeary, and Connor Jacobs (pictured above, L to R) scored in the 95th percentile or higher to earn this recognition.  The Duke University Talent Identification Program’s (Duke TIP) 7th Grade Talent Search identifies students in 16 states in the Southeast, Midwest, and Southwest for their scores on their grade-level achievement test.  As a reward for their achievements, students will take college entrance exams (SAT and ACT) free of charge to further discern their abilities.

Once results from the ACT and SAT are received, students will be honored for their achievements at the Duke TIP annual Recognition Ceremonies on May 30th.  According to Western Kentucky University news, “This year, of the 66,198 participants nationally, 21,115 students (32 percent) have been invited to attend State Recognition Ceremonies and 1,804 students (3 percent) have been invited to the Grand Recognition Ceremony.”

Dean Amanda Clark states, “I am extremely proud of each student chosen for this prestigious honor. Academic achievement is at an all-time high at The June Buchanan School, and these five Duke TIP recipients are fine examples of the well-rounded students we strive to produce at JBS. ”  Colton, Connor, Trey, Ruby, and Jake are all members of the JBS Middle School Academic Team, as well as members of various JBS athletic teams (basketball, cross country, and tennis).
