The June Buchanan School is pleased to announce that they have received a $15,000.00 grant from the Margaret Hall Foundation to be used to upgrade technology school-wide.  The proposal submitted by JBS included ideas such as a mobile Mac computer lab, classroom iPads, and handheld Palm OS technology for classroom instruction.  The proposal was selected by the Board of the Margaret Hall Foundation to receive the Helen R. Burg Merit Award for 2011.  This award is given in memory of Helen R. Burg, the long-time Executive Director of the Foundation.  Since Mrs. Burg was dedicated to the educational purposes of the Foundation, the award is given to the school whose grant proposal exhibits the most creativity, uniqueness, and educational efficacy.

Amanda Clark, Dean of The June Buchanan School, was extremely honored to accept the grant on behalf of the entire school.  She stated that, “This grant will provide our students with numerous opportunities to excel in the area of technology.  At JBS, we strive to give our students a strong academic foundation for future studies and eventually their chosen professions.  Technology is such an integral part of our society today that our students will be expected to demonstrate competence in this area, no matter what they plan on doing in the future.  This grant is such a blessing to our school, and it will be put to good use!”

The June Buchanan School also received a similar grant last summer, which was used to upgrade all computers school-wide.  JBS takes pride on having technologically innovative classrooms, with state-of-the-art computers, Mimio boards, and document cameras to enhance student learning.  Technology classes are also offered for all grade levels.  For more information about The June Buchanan School, please feel free to call (606) 368-6108.
