Junior guard Gemma Gray scored 23 points to lead the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles to a 68-63 victory over the visiting Midway College Eagles in a game played Saturday afternoon.

In the first half, ALC’s leading scorer Ariel Nickell (Claiborne, TN) scored 6 quick points to give her club an early lead. However, the freshman forward picked up her second foul with 15:00 remaining in the half and was regulated to the bench until intermission. In her absence, the visitors kept the score tight.

In need of offense, Alice Lloyd turned to Gray and senior Whitney Frazier (Louisa) to supply the firepower. Both ladies hit several shots to keep the hosts in the lead.

When the halftime buzzer sounded, the Eagles found themselves with a 7 point cushion (35-28).

In the second half, Midway fought hard, but each time they would cut into the deficit, Alice Lloyd would go on a run and increase their cushion to double figures. Gray (Manchester) always seemed to come through with a big three pointer any time the visitors got within striking distance. She finished the game a perfect 4-4 from long range, and 7-13 overall.

For the victors (11-13, 7-3 KIAC), in addition to Gray’s game high, Nickell and Frazier each added 17 points apiece.

Midway (9-18, 6-5 KIAC) was led by 15 points from Kayla Rose.
