Playing on the road for the thirteenth time in fifteen outings, the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles road warriors earned two huge conference wins this weekend to improve their placement in the KIAC standings.

The contest originally scheduled for Friday January 14th at Berea College against Saint Louis College of Pharmacy was not played. STLCOP notified the conference on Thursday that they would have to forfeit this contest to ALC, so the Eagles were automatically credited with a win.

On Saturday afternoon, Alice Lloyd traveled to Wilmore to play the Midway Eagles. Midway entered the contest with an unblemished 3-0 conference record. After the dust had settled, ALC had won the battle 82-76.

In the first half, MC showed why they were unbeaten as they raced out to an early lead. Alice Lloyd refused to go away, however, and by the half, only trailed the hosts by three (34-31).

In the second half, Midway maintained a slight edge for the first fourteen minutes. Then, sparked by the play of senior guard Whitney Frazier (Louisa) and freshman forward Ariel Nickell (Claiborne, Tn.), ALC fought back and finally took control.  They then sealed the victory by sinking their free throws in the waning seconds.

For ALC (6-9,  2-2 KIAC), they were paced once again by Nickell, who continued her streak of outstanding play by tossing in 26 points and ripping down a game high 10 rebounds, and  Frazier, who also added 26 points and handed out a game high 6 assists.

In addition for the victors, senior forward Nicole Lutes (Jackson) and junior forward Gemma Gray (Manchester) each played major roles and chipped in 12 points apiece.

Midway (6-12, 3-1 KIAC) was led by 22 points from Kayla Rose.
