Lady Eagles Fall in Opening Round of KIAC Tournament

The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles put up a game effort, but saw their season come to a close at the hands of the home-standing Brescia University Bearcats, 75-63. The opening round matchup was played on Tuesday night.{nl}This season, the KIAC elected to allow the top four seeds to host the first round games on their home-court. The Bearcats received the conference’s #3 seed. As the #6 seed, the Lady Eagles, therefore, were forced to make the 300 mile trip to Owensboro.{nl}In the opening half, both teams started tight. However, backed by their fine duo of Brittany Bird and Clarissa Houston, the Bearcats pulled ahead 39-30 by intermission.{nl}In the second half, ALC fought to keep the game close. When Lady Eagle guard Gemma Grey connected on a bucket with only 4:00 remaining, the deficit was reduced to one. From this point, BU was able to go to the charity stripe, and they connected on enough free throws to place the contest out of reach.{nl}On the night, both squads shot an identical 26-61 from the field for 42.6%. Brescia hit 9 three pointers compared to the Lady Eagles 6, but Alice Lloyd dominated the boards, winning that battle 48-36.{nl}The difference in the contest was at the free throw line. BU shot 28 and hit exactly half, while ALC attempted 13 and connected on only 5.{nl}For the Lady Eagles (9-17), team high scoring honors went to the sophomore duo of Gray and forward Heather Martin, who each tossed in 15. The junior tandem of forward Nicole Lutes and guard Whitney Frazier each contributed 12. {nl}Grey also had a team high 7 rebounds while Frazier handed out 3 assists.{nl}For Brescia (17-13), Houston and Bird tossed in 23 and 20.
