he Alice Lloyd College Eagles and Lady Eagles each earned a hard- fought victory on Saturday. The women picked up an important conference road win while the men won a non-conference contest at home. Following are recaps of each game:{nl}ALC Lady Eagles-67; Midway-62{nl}Lady Eagle guard Bailey Gabbard scored 20 points, including the game clinching basket with 15 seconds remaining, to lead the visiting ALC women to a big 67-61 conference road win over the Midway Eagles on Saturday afternoon.{nl}In the first half, Midway jumped out to an early lead. They extended it to as many as 10 (26-16), with just over six minutes remaining. ALC then made a run to knot the score at 30, before two late buckets forged MC ahead by 4 (36-32) at intermission. {nl}In the second half, Alice Lloyd opened with a run and quickly made up the deficit. Both teams played evenly over the next twelve minutes, but ALC managed to get several stops on defense and led by 6 going into the final 6:00.{nl}Playing before the home crowd, the Midway ladies fought to regain their advantage. After a MC free throw with only 35 seconds remaining, Alice Lloyd’s lead was down to 1 (62-61).{nl}On the next possession, ALC played keep away with the ball until 15 seconds were left. Junior center Chelsea Jarrell then spotted Gabbard open on the right wing. The smooth shooting junior never hesitated and her 25 footer (her fourth three pointer of the game) found nothing but net to give Alice Lloyd a 65-61 lead.{nl}Racing against time, Midway rushed down court and misfired on a quick three. The rebound was corralled by ALC guard Gemma Grey, who sank two free throws to complete the scoring.{nl}For ALC (6-10; 2-2), three players reached double figures. In addition to Gabbard, the sophomore Grey finished with 14. Fellow sophomore Heather Martin also came up big as she had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.{nl}ALC Eagles-102; Tennessee Temple University-98{nl}Freshman guard Brandon Burgraff scored a career high 27 points (including 5 three point baskets) to lead ALC to a fast paced 102-98 win over the Tennessee Temple University Crusaders Saturday night.{nl}In the first half, ALC started well and jumped out to a quick lead. By intermission, they had extended it to 11 (48-37).{nl}In the second half, backed by 18 Burgraff points, the Eagles maintained their cushion until the final four minutes. At that juncture, the Crusaders went on a run and cut into the deficit. A basket by Tennessee guard Jonnie McLawhorn reduced the lead to just 2 (100-98) with only 10 seconds remaining. {nl}Forced to foul, TTU put Eagle guard Michael Lindon on the line. The sophomore calmly sank both freebies to seal the match in the victory column for Alice Lloyd. {nl}For ALC, (6-12), three players reached double figures. In addition to Burgraff’s 27, junior guard Daniel Combs ripped in 24 and sophomore guard Van Ferguson tossed in 18.
