The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles traveled to Wise, Virginia last night and suffered a heart wrenching 83-80 defeat at the hands of the UVA-Wise Lady Cavaliers.{nl}Sparked by junior Nicole Lutes and sophomore Gemma Grey, and aided by 64% team field goal shooting, ALC got out of the gates strong. A bucket by Grey gave the Lady Eagles a 26-11 lead at the 11:10 mark.{nl}The Lady Cavaliers cut the lead to three, but a late flurry by Alice Lloyd set the score at 58-48 by intermission.{nl}In the second half, UVA opened the first 2:30 on a 12-3 run to cut the deficit to one at 61-60. From this point, the game was nick and tuck as neither team had more than a five point lead the remainder of the game.{nl}A jumper by ALC’S Bailey Gabbard tied the game at 80 with 1:36 to play.{nl}A free throw at the 1:07 mark gave the Lady Cavaliers an 81-80 lead. After a Lady Eagle turnover, UVA got the ball back and hit two more free throws to make the score 83-80. {nl}Alice Lloyd’s Grey got off a shot with contact on the play, but no foul was called at the buzzer.{nl}For ALC (1-2) five ladies reached double figures. They were led in scoring by Lutes with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She was followed by Gray with 14.  Junior Bree Frazier added 11 while the junior Bailey Gabbard and sophomore Allison Feltner contributed 10 apiece.{nl}UVA-Wise (1-0) was led by Charlotte Reasor with 15.{nl}The Lady Eagles return to action on Monday November 9, when they travel to Pikeville for a showdown with the Lady Bears. Tipoff is set for 5:30.
