The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles traveled to Montgomery ,West Virginia to play in the challenging West Virginia Tech University Classic against two members of the perennial tough Mid- South Conference; the WVT Lady Golden Bears and The Pikeville Lady Bears. ALC had the unenviable task of playing the 8 pm game on Friday followed by playing the 2pm game on Saturday.{nl}In game one, Alice Lloyd faced the home squad. Both clubs played well in the first twenty minutes, but the Golden Bears slowly built a lead of 8 points toward the end of the half. ALC stormed back, and with 1:16 remaining, two Sarah Burchell free throws put the Lady Eagles on top 31-30. Three late WVT free throws gave Tech a 33-31 lead at intermission.{nl}In the second half, the game remained close through the first ten minutes, but sparked by the inside play of Shyla Jones, the Golden Bears went on a 22-13 run to take a 59-50 lead  at the 5:01 mark.  The Lady Eagles refused to quit, and they roared back with a 13-4 run of their own to knot the score at 63 with 1:36 remaining.{nl}Neither team could break the tie until ALC’S junior guard Bree Frazier connected on a tough shot to give her club a 65-63 lead with only :07 left. On the ensuing possession, Tech quickly raced up the floor and misfired on a desperation shot. The rebound was collared by WVT’S Ashley Blaney, and her buzzer beater force overtime.{nl}In overtime, the Lady Eagles crept out to a 3 point lead. However, fueled by two consecutive threes from guard Kerin Roache, Tech regained the lead. They then connected on their free throws to preserve the victory. {nl}For ALC (2-5), three ladies cracked double digits. They were led in scoring by junior Nicole Lutes with 21 points.  Sophomore Gemma Grey finished with 17 points and tied Burchell with a team high 8 rebounds. Frazier added 12 and a game high 8 assists.  {nl}For WVT (3-1), they were led by Style Harper with 20 points. Roach and Jones added 18 and 17 points respectively.  {nl}In game two, the effects of the grueling late overtime game showed as the Lady Eagles connected on only 24% from the field. PC exploded out of the gates for 49 first half points and ALC was never able to challenge in the 93-57 setback.{nl}For ALC (2-6), the only player to reach double figures was Grey with 12.{nl}Natiera Henson led a trio of double digit scorers for Pikeville (4-1) with 24. Lakia Bailey and Lauren Potts added 17 and 13.
