In a contest played before a large crowd at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center Tuesday night, the Alice Lloyd Eagles dropped a tough 75-73 decision to the Kentucky Christian University Knights. {nl}Coach J.R. Hammond’s young Eagles struggled early on offense, and the Knights were able to take advantage. However, a late rally by ALC closed the gap to 36-34 by intermission.{nl}In the second half, the Knights were able to maintain a cushion between 4 and 8 points most of the way. Sparked by the shooting of freshman center Devon Adams and some outstanding hustle, the Eagles were able to position themselves for one final run, and they began to eat into the Knight’s lead.{nl}A bucket by Nick Brumback cut the deficit to two at 71-69 with just under two minutes remaining. The Eagles then had a solid defensive possession and got the ball back with a chance to tie or take the lead. Brumback drew a foul on a strong move to the goal and received two free throws with the chance to tie the contest. Unfortunately, both came up just short and KCU corralled the rebound. The Knights then scored on their next trip to make the score 75-71 with 15 seconds remaining.{nl}A bucket by Logan Bryant trimmed the lead to two with only .08 seconds left on the clock. Bryant then stole the inbounds pass, but his desperation shot from beyond mid-court fell short as time expired.{nl}For the Eagles (1-1) they were led in scoring by Brumback. The sophomore forward overcame a tough first half to finish strong with 18 points and 6 rebounds. He was followed in double figures by the 6’10 Adams, who connected on 7-8 from the field for 14 points.{nl}Sophomore Brandon Hayes led the way for ALC on the boards as he ripped down 12, and senior Keith Warner paced the team by dishing off 6 assists.{nl}For the Knights (1-0), they were led in scoring by guard Casey Jones with 25. He was followed in double digits by forward Eric McKee with 16 and center Suetomer Illic with 13.{nl}The Eagles look to get back on the winning track this Thursday when they travel to Wise, Virginia to face the University of Virginia- Wise Cavaliers. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00.
