Student Life

He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ring'd with the azure world, he stands.

The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.

—Lord Alfred Tennyson, from The Eagle

Why did you choose to attend Alice Lloyd College?

Alice Lloyd was my first choice for several reasons. Not only was the College affordable, but the laid-back, welcoming atmosphere on campus allowed me to have a home away from home. Alice Lloyd allowed me to receive a quality education, without debt or homesickness.

What advantages have you received by participating in the Work-Study program at Alice Lloyd College?

The work-study program at Alice Lloyd College has given me many opportunities to grow and become more professional as a person. My first two years at ALC, I was the Assistant to the Director of Marketing and Communications, and for the past two years, I have been fortunate to be a Resident Advisor. Both work-study positions have allowed me to nurture wonderful people skills, as well as help me develop a professional and responsible work ethic--an ethic I will carry with me into the real world upon graduating.

What advice would you give incoming students to ensure their success at Alice Lloyd College?

While the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and you're sure to have many fun times, Alice Lloyd College is a demanding institution academically and socially. I would recomend a day planner, in that it's easy to be overrun with tests, work-study, and extracurricular activities. Also, a sound machine to aid with sleeping in the dorm at night doesn't hurt!
