    library sign snow.jpg (12720 bytes)McGaw Library is located on the second floor of the McGaw Library and Learning Center in the center of campus.  Alice Lloyd students have access to the book and audiovisual collections of McGaw Library and are served by an experienced staff of professional librarians.   Students recieve assistance in locating information needed for writing research   papers and other course assignments.  Students also have access to extensive Interlibrary Loan Services through McGaw Library's participation in cooperative agreements with other libraries in the Appalachian region.

    opac.jpg (9504 bytes)The library is served by an automated circulation system and an electronic catalog which students find easy to use.  Extensive indexing of periodicals and the text of the journal articles are available both in the library and from all computers on the college campus.  The library staff provides instruction in the use of the Internet and the World Wide Web for searching reference databases.

    lib.jpg (10620 bytes)The book collections at McGaw Library are organized according to the Dewey Decimal classification system.  Additions to the collection are made that best support the courses offered by the College.  Students are encouraged to make purchase recommendations.

    appy.jpg (10467 bytes)As part of its Appalachian emphasis, the Library houses an Appalachian Collection of approximately 3,000 volumes and administers the Photographic Archives and the Appalachian Oral History Project.  In the Photographic Archives, old photographs of the Central Appalachian region are collected and indexed as a scholarly resource to preserve the visual history of the region.  The Appalachian Oral History Project includes the participation of three other colleges in Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina.
