JBS Facilities
Athletic Facilities
JBS students participate in a wide variety of athletic activities. All Alice Lloyd College athletic facilities can be utilized by JBS students under adult supervision. A full listing of these facilities can be found here.
Food Services
The June Buchanan School does not operate its own cafeteria and uses the campus-dining hall (Hunger Din) where meals are catered by Pioneer Food Services. During the school year, JBS students eat at the facility from 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and the costs for lunches are included in the JBS tuition and fee arrangement.
The cafeteria hours of operation may vary slightly when only The June Buchanan School is in session and Alice Lloyd College is not in session (two weeks in August and two weeks in January). Visitors are welcome to dine in the cafeteria for meals other than lunch. The approximate meal rates are: breakfast $2.25, lunch $3.00, dinner $3.00 and “special event” meals are $4.50 (prices subject to change).
The dining hall is a public eating facility where JBS students, ALC students, campus faculty and staff, alumni, board members and visitors are welcome. High standards of conduct are expected. Students are asked to join in an effort to help control spiraling food costs by not wasting food. Plates, cups, and other utensils may not be removed from the cafeteria.
All JBS students must remain in the “Hunger Din” until 11:25. Only JBS Seniors are authorized to buy food at the campus cafe during the lunch break. Students desiring to visit any other location on campus during the lunch break need to obtain permission from the JBS Dean. All JBS rules and regulations remain in effect during the lunch breaks. JBS students (grades 6-12) may choose to eat lunch in the Bookstore (they will be allowed to go to the Bookstore after ‘The Blessing’), but will be required to pay for the food items there. This is not a part of their regular tuition. Once they obtain food from the Bookstore, they are to return immediately to the “Hunger Din”, or to other areas that may be designated by the Dean.
Library Services
The McGaw Library houses a collection totaling 60,000 books, bound materials, newspapers, periodicals and audiovisual material. JBS students and faculty have complete access to the library resources and services. New data search bases are available for JBS student use as well as inter-library loan. The library staff assists JBS students with the use of data base programs, reader’s advisory services, and location of materials. A coin-operated photocopier is available near the circulation desk for $ 0.10 per copy.
The normal hours of operation for the library during the school year are 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., (Monday through Thursday); 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Friday); 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Saturday); and 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. (Sunday).
