JBS Announcements

  1. ACADEMIC/ATHLETIC AWARDS CEREMONY TONIGHT!!!  MANY JBS students will be honored tonight for their accomplishments. PLUS – JBS students will be highlighted in pictures on the “big screen” – you don’t want to miss this program.  Academic Awards begins promptly at 6 pm, followed by the athletic awards.

 

  1. TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.  School will dismiss tomorrow at 11:30 am.  THERE WILL BE NO AFTER SCHOOL TOMORROW.

 

3.       LOST ITEMS:  Please check in the JBS office Lost & Found if you cannot find personal items you may have left on campus. Also check outside of the Hunger Din, on the hooks, for coats, sweaters, umbrellas you may have left

 

  1. FINALS WEEK– This week, Monday and Tuesday will be regularly scheduled classes using this time to REVIEW for semester finals.  Wednesday will begin finals (grades 7 – 12) for 5th, 6th and 7th periods; Thursday – 2nd, 3rd, and 4th periods; Friday – 1st period.  Please get plenty of rest, a healthy breakfast and avoid any absences, if possible during this time.

 

  1. SENIORS/JUNIOR MARSHALS/FRESHMAN and SOPHOMORE USHERS:  Please meet on Friday, May 9th at 10 am in CAC Auditorium to go through graduation practice.  Seniors:  Please REMEMBER to bring your cap, gown, medallions and honors cords for your SENIOR CLASS GRADUATION PICTURE on Friday at 11 am!!!! (Junior marshals, freshman and sophomore ushers will be announced at Thursday night’s Academic Awards ceremony).

 

  1. ANNOUNCING A JOINT PRODUCTION BETWEEN JBS AND ALC OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING:   Preliminary spring auditions will be held in CAC Auditorium Tuesday, May 6th from 3:00-5:00.  Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.  You will be given a scene or a monologue to read for the audition.  You will be given a few minutes to prepare your monologue or your scene with your assigned scene partner before you present it.  OPEN AUDITIONS and CALL-BACKS will be held in mid-August at the beginning of the fall term in addition to these Spring Auditions.  Everyone who wants to be involved in this production should contact Megan Burnett at meganburnett@alc.edu or call at 368-6050.  If you would like to read a synopsis on the play, please stop by the JBS Main Office.

 

  1. The Bookstore is having an  END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR SALE on select ALC and JBS clothing and novelty items.  Items are now 75 percent off.  Please stop by the Bookstore during the hours of 8:00-4:00 and shop 'til you drop!

 

  1. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BOYS BASEBALL TEAM:  for their wins over Betsy Lane on Tuesday with the score of 11-3 and for their win last night against Jackson City with a score of 5-2.  In last night’s game Zach Amburgey and Blake King both hit home runs.  Way to go.

 

  1. The large prizes from St. Jude’s for the Math-A-Thon will arrive within the next two weeks.  Students need to stop by the office sometime over the summer to pick these up. 

 

  1. CONGRATULATIONS TO CLARK STEPP. Clark has decided to accept a full basketball scholarship to play next season at Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Clark had received many offers before making his decision to join the Governors next season. In 2007-2008, Austin Peay won the Ohio Valley Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. They are considered the elite program in their conference and last season played such non-conference opponents as Memphis, Texas and Vanderbilt.

 

  1. TEXTBOOKS:  ALL textbooks must be returned to your teacher. If you have a missing textbook – please return it to the office after school is out.  If you cannot find it, you must pay the replacement cost.  Grades will be held until the book is returned, or replacement fee paid.

 

12.    BACKPACKS, SPORTS BAGS, BINDERS, COATS, ETCmust ALL be taken home today.  Any personal items left in JBS Main or CAC after school is out will be tossed, or given away.  Please look carefully through the hallways, on top of lockers, in classrooms, for any items that belong to you.

 

  1. LOCKER CLEAN-OUT:  After your 4th period final, you must your locker inspected by your fourth period teacher.  ALL items except your 1st period textbook must be cleaned out of your locker.  Please remove all stickers, magnets, papers, etc. from inside, and outside of your locker.

 

  1. ART CAMP AT KNOTT COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL:  The 2008 Summer Art Camp will be held June 2-6 in the art room at Knott County Central High School in Hindman, Kentucky. The camp is for serious young artists in grades K-8. Students in grades K-3 will receive instruction from 10 a.m.-12 noon and those in grades 4-8 from 1-3 p.m. Special consideration will be given to families with children in various grades. The camp fee is $60 which includes instruction and supplies. This fee is nonrefundable for missed days. Students will be given a choice of media in drawing (pencil, ink, or colored pencil) and painting (watercolor or tempera). Anyone wanting instruction in other media needs to bring his/her own supplies. It is recommended students bring a portfolio or sample of their artwork. On Friday June 6 there will be a joint morning session for all students to complete and display their artwork for a public art exhibit and reception with refreshments at 11:30 a.m. Instruction is under the supervision of K.C.C.H.S. art teacher Carolyn Slone Gibson whose students have won various competitions locally, regionally, and at state. Assistance will be given by her daughter Christina. Artwork done at camp is eligible for the 2008 Gingerbread Festival Art Exhibit. Registration needs to be done by May 30 to assure your child’s participation. ·         JBS 2008 Graduation – Friday, May 9th Baccalaureate at 7 pm and Commencement at 8 pm – CAC Auditorium
