Alice Lloyd College has been serving Appalachian students for almost 100 years! Thousands of young people have graduated from the school, and most are currently serving their fellow Appalachians in positions of leadership: doctors, dentists, ministers, pharmacists, lawyers, engineers, business people, entrepreneurs, social workers, teachers, and so much more.
Mrs. Alice Spencer Geddes Lloyd had a great vision for Appalachia, a future that she wanted to create by providing a character-based, leadership-centric education to the region’s young people at little to no cost to them. “The leaders are here,” she said, “waiting to be trained if given a chance.”
We are thrilled to be able to carry on in her absence, and caring people like you continue to make our mission possible. No student has ever been turned away from Alice Lloyd College due to an inability to pay. Like our founder, we understand the region’s economic hardships, and we refuse to allow a qualified Appalachian student to miss out on obtaining a high-quality education just because of their financial situation. In fact, the out-of-pocket cost of tuition for students originating from our service area is $0. That’s right! The cost of tuition is guaranteed to those students, which means that they will be receiving the chance that Mrs. Lloyd spoke of — the chance to better themselves and the lives around them — at an unbeatable price.
We accomplish this mission by constantly building our endowment to secure the future, but our tuition-guarantee policy requires our concerted efforts to pull in additional funding to meet our annual budget. Our dream is to fully endow the tuition-guarantee scholarship. Friends across America — people like you — are helping! How? By creating permanent, endowed scholarships. Perhaps you would like to help, too.
