Alice Lloyd College

How We Use Your Gift

Endowment funds at Alice Lloyd College help to educate future leaders for Appalachia. Mrs. Lloyd promised that she would never turn away a qualified student due to their limited financial resources. Today, we continue this pledge and educate hundreds of low-income students while guaranteeing the full cost of tuition. A larger endowment is essential so that we may continue to offer this extraordinary opportunity to Appalachian students.

  • Scholarships

Appalachian Leaders College ScholarshipsThese scholarships guarantee that full-time students from within ALC’s 108-county service area in Central Appalachia pay no out-of-pocket costs for tuition.

Academic Scholarships — These scholarships cover up to the full cost of education, books and fees, and guarantees acceptance into the Caney Scholars Program.

Caney Cottage Scholarships — These scholarships provide rent and utility-free boarding at the H. N. and Frances C. Berger Residence Hall on the campus of the University of Kentucky, or financial assistance in the form of a stipend while attending another university in which the student is enrolled in a graduate or professional program of study. The College’s Caney Scholars Program, which assists our graduates financially as they pursue advanced degrees, is unique among the nation’s institutions of higher learning.

  • Convocation Series Fund

This fund will enable us to bring inspirational speakers, performing arts groups, and various educational and cultural programs to our campus each year for the benefit of our students.

  • Faculty Chair Fund

This fund will permanently underwrite the salary, benefits, and other expenses of an outstanding teacher in an area designated by the donor.

  • Technology Fund

Repair and replacement of computer hardware will be a primary focus of this fund. As technology continues to change the way we obtain and provide information, this fund will help us utilize state-of-the-art technical equipment.

  • Greatest Needs

The need is great; but, when you invest in the youth of Central Appalachia, you reap a priceless reward. Every gift received by Alice Lloyd College, no matter the amount, goes directly toward providing educational opportunities for our students. Like our founder, we want to fulfill the great promise that the leaders Appalachia needs are here.
