Deserving students from 108 counties in Central Appalachia pay no out-of-pocket costs for tuition and are never turned away because of an inability to pay.

Alice Lloyd arrived in Knott County, Kentucky in 1915 with a desire to improve the social and economic conditions of the people in Appalachia by giving them a character-based education that focused upon leadership, self-reliance, and service to others. Her dream is still being realized by the faculty and staff, as well as the students of the college that now bears her name. With programs like the Student Work Program and many volunteer opportunities throughout the region, Mrs. Lloyd’s mission remains the glue that binds ALC together. Alice Lloyd College is still providing leadership for Appalachia.

Without the amazing opportunity provided by ALC, our students, the vast majority of whom come from low-income families, might never have the chance to receive a high-quality, affordable education. Your gift helps us fund the Appalachian Leaders College Scholarships, which cover the cost of tuition for up to 10 semesters, as well as endowed scholarships, Caney Cottage Scholarships, and so much more.

More importantly, your gift will change lives — the lives of our students, their families, and the communities from which they come. Graduates of Alice Lloyd College have the intelligence, leadership skills, work ethic, commitment to service, and strength of character it takes to be the catalysts for positive change throughout Appalachia.
