A poor man served by thee shall make thee rich;
A sick man helped by thee shall make thee strong;
Thou shalt be served thyself by every sense
Of service which thou renderest.

Biography: I am the daughter of Ray and Tammy Allen of Viper, Kentucky, and I attended Perry County Central High School in Hazard. I have been Vice President of the Law Society, a member of the Environmental Club and the Circle-K Club while here at Alice Lloyd, as well as having been a Resident Advisor and a Teacher's Assistant. In the summer of 2007, I was an intern at George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens in Mount Vernon, Virginia. I spent the spring 2008 semester interning for Senator Kathy Stein and the Kentucky General Assembly at the state capitol in Frankfort, Kentucky.

What was the most important thing you learned while attending Alice Lloyd College?

The most important thing I learned at Alice Lloyd College was probably how to be independent. I learned to say well-organized, maintain a good work ethic, and make my education a highest priority. The campus provides reliable support with the faculty, and they helped me gain the motivation to do well in my classes, while work study provided me with extra confidence to succeed in jobs away from school.

What advice would you give to prospective students?

I would advise future students to stay on track and remember why they are attending college. Stay well-organized, attend classes and take advantage of the availability we have with our professors. The teachers are always here when we need them, unlike most colleges, and it is a privilege too many people overlook. So take advantage of the small class sizes and opportunities offered at the school, and never push snooze on your alarm clock.

Why did you choose to attend Alice Lloyd College?

I chose to attend Alice Lloyd College because of its location to my house, affordability, and good reputation.

How did Alice Lloyd College prepare you for life after graduation?

The professors have been wonderful with preparing me for law school and have provided me with unimaginable opportunities outside of school in my internships. They helped me grow by challenging me in my classes and have helped me develop the confidence I will need in law school and my future career. Work study has taught me how to balance work with many other tasks, and overall Alice Lloyd has made me very comfortable to graduate, continue my education, and prepare for my career.

What was the highlight of your Alice Lloyd experience?

The highlight of my experience here would probably be the closeness to some professors and work supervisors. This opened doors for me and led to the internships that I will never forget and forever cherish. It's the outstanding professors that made my Alice Lloyd experience unique, and for that I will be forever grateful.
