The office of Marketing and Public Relations at Alice Lloyd College works with all other areas of the College to promote public awareness of ALC and its educational mission. This office is responsible for the majority of printed materials produced about the College, including news releases, brochures, Admissions materials, and Pippa’s Song, the official newsletter of Alice Lloyd College and The June Buchanan School. Additionally, this office oversees website content and works in conjunction with the Alumni Office to coordinate the annual Appalachia Day Homecoming.
Appalachia Day Homecoming
Alice Lloyd College holds its annual Appalachia Day Homecoming celebration every second Saturday of October. Hundreds of friends and alumni gather on campus to listen to traditional mountain music and peruse booths displaying the arts and crafts of Appalachian Artisans. Other events which take place during this day of fun and fellowship include the annual Alumni Association Meeting, various athletic events, children’s storytelling, an Appalachian authors’ book signing, the coronation of the Homecoming Queen and Princess, the traditional Soup Bean Supper, and a special theatre production.
If you missed this year’s Appalachia Day Homecoming or attended and would like to relive the day’s events, please view our Appalachia Day slideshow below. The photos were provided by Jennifer Hall, a student at the College. The music was performed by ALC’s Voices of Appalachia and Sam Gleaves, a talented young musician from Wytheville, Virginia (used with his permission).
Pippa’s Song
Pippa’s Song, the official newsletter of Alice Lloyd College and The June Buchanan School, is published three times a year and contains news articles featuring current students, alumni, faculty, and staff.
