Kristen Fitch

Hey, I’m Kristen, a senior this year at Alice Lloyd! I’m from the small town of Paintsville, KY. I attended Johnson Central High School, which is almost twice the size of Alice Lloyd College!

Since my father is an Alice Lloyd College alumnus, I’ve always heard stories about his experiences here. Although many things have changed since he attended ALC, my experience has been much the same — the friendliness and small-town feeling still remain. I hope you will come and check it out for yourself!

Q & A with Kristen

  1. Why did you choose to attend Alice Lloyd College?
Alice Lloyd had everything I was looking for in a college … and so much more. Along with the fact that it’s close to home, the small class sizes, welcoming staff, the promise of a quality education, and the College’s high-standing reputation are just some of the reasons that made ALC the perfect fit for me.
  2. Did you tour other colleges and universities? Describe your tour at Alice Lloyd. What made Alice Lloyd College stand out?
Prior to my tour at Alice Lloyd, I had toured one other college and was ready to commit; however, my tour at ALC changed everything. From the first time I stepped on campus, it felt like home. The staff all made it a point to speak to me and welcome me to campus. I noticed that they treated everyone this way. Instead of being just a number, you are an individual to them whom they can’t wait to meet! That welcoming experience is what changed my mind.
  3. What’s your major?
    Biology pre-medicine.
  4. Are you planning on participating in any extracurricular activities?
My first year I joined the Allied Health Club as well as the Voices of Appalachia. Being a member of the Allied Health Club, I had the option to tour graduate schools such as Marshall and LMU. As a member of the Voices of Appalachia, this spring I was given the opportunity to sing in parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida on a ten-day tour of the South. With the wide variety of clubs and organizations offered at ALC, there are a lot of choices. You can always find something to suit your interests! Being involved in these activities also helps you to meet new people who share your same interests and goals.
  5. What was the one thing you had to bring with you to college?
While there are many important things you need for college, the most important thing for me is my Bible. As college is filled with many challenges and new beginnings, my Bible is my guide for life, a road map with all of the answers to whatever life brings my way.
  6. What do you hope to get out of your college experience?
Upon completion of my degree at Alice Lloyd, I hope to not only be prepared to further my education, but also to gain attributes such as a solid work ethic, leadership, professionalism, and many of the other character-building traits on which Alice Lloyd College focuses.
  7. After you graduate from ALC, what are your goals?
I plan on attending the University of Kentucky School of Medicine. Since I received a Geddes Scholarship from Alice Lloyd, I can stay in ALC’s Caney Cottage for free! I’ll also receive a generous stipend from the College that will help me to achieve my goal of one day becoming a pediatrician.
  8. What are you most excited about as you begin the next chapter of your life at ALC?
I am so excited to meet new people and to grow closer to reaching my goals; however, I am most excited about all of the opportunities that Alice Lloyd College offers. Including a quality education, the College provides a work-study program, various clubs and organizations, leadership programs, and financial help with graduate school. The possibilities are endless as to what a person can achieve, thanks to their education at Alice Lloyd College!
